When Work Took Over, She Still Came First

I’m sorry I didn’t post yesterday’s blog. I was a little occupied with work, and the entire day became much busier than I expected. So here’s everything that happened yesterday.

Starting the Morning With My Pappa

The night before, I slept a little late because I was on a call with one of my colleagues until around 12 A.M. Still, I woke up early in the morning, and as usual, the first thing I did was wish my Pappa good morning. I was feeling a little tired because of the late sleep, but speaking with her in the morning was something I didn’t want to miss.

I freshened up and went downstairs to the lobby at around 7 A.M., where I waited for my Pappa’s call. Soon, she called me, and we started talking about everything that had happened the previous day. I shared a few incidents from the office, including something involving one of my close colleagues.

That particular topic took quite a long time because he is one of my close friends at work, my Pappa also speaks with him, and the incident was somehow related to her as well. So I explained the entire situation to her and shared what my colleagues had said. Apart from that, we spoke about our usual things and how everything was going.

Eventually, she reached her office, which meant it was time for us to end the call. As always, we said goodbye and “Love you” to each other before disconnecting.

Another Conversation Before Work

I stayed downstairs for a few more minutes, and I saw the entrepreneur I had mentioned before. We started talking, and he told me that he had a meeting that morning. Apparently, he had arrived around 6:30 A.M. because his meeting was scheduled for around 8:30.

We continued talking for some time while he waited. Around 9 A.M., I said goodbye to him because I needed to get ready for work. I already knew I had a lot to finish that day.

I returned to my room and prepared my usual breakfast: two boiled eggs and three slices of bread. While the eggs were getting ready, I took a shower, got dressed, finished my breakfast, and came downstairs again to begin working.

A Day Full of Work

The workload was quite heavy. I had multiple meetings, huge tasks, and several things that needed my attention, so most of my day disappeared into work. Because of that, I couldn’t speak with my Pappa as much as I normally do.

I had already told her that I had a lot of work, and she understood that completely. She didn’t keep texting me because she knew I needed to concentrate. That’s something I really appreciate about her—when I tell her I’m busy, she understands the situation without making things difficult for me.

Around lunchtime, I started waiting for her call even though I still had plenty of work pending. No matter how busy the day becomes, she is still a priority for me. Once she finished her lunch, she called, and we finally got a little time together.

I explained how much work I had and started telling her everything that had happened since morning. I told her about the tasks, the confusion, and how busy the entire day had become. We spoke for a while before both of us had to return to work.

Two Different Approaches and One Confused Developer

I had two important calls during the day. One of them was with the PMO, and the other was a product demo that I was suddenly added to. The funny part was that I didn’t even properly know what the product was, what exactly it was used for, or what questions I was supposed to ask.

Before the demo, however, I had another problem. Everything I had worked on from morning until that point suddenly felt like a complete waste of time because the approach suggested by the sales team was completely different from the approach suggested by the PMO.

Both solutions were contradicting each other, and I couldn’t figure out which direction I was actually supposed to follow. Finally, before the demo call, the PMO suggested another solution. That approach seemed quite reasonable to me, so I decided to proceed with it.

Then I attended the demo call, already mentally exhausted from all these changes. I was suddenly sitting in a meeting about a product I barely knew, expected to understand the demo and ask questions. By the time it ended, I was completely drained.

Telling Everything to My Pappa

Thankfully, around the time the demo ended, it was also time for my Pappa to leave her office. I immediately called her because I really wanted to talk.

I started telling her everything that had happened. I told her I was feeling down, that I couldn’t concentrate properly, that I didn’t feel like working anymore, and I was basically blabbering whatever was running through my mind. At one point, I even blabbered, “I don’t like you,” along with everything else out of frustration.

She simply listened to me patiently. Slowly, our conversation moved away from work, we started talking about some funny things, and eventually I was laughing again. Sometimes, after an exhausting day, that little conversation with her is enough to change my mood.

A Little More Time Together

Her mother was travelling to her native place that day, so her brother had gone to drop her mother. Meanwhile, my Pappa had been asked to buy some detergent powder from a nearby supermarket.

Once she reached her area, she went to the supermarket, and we continued talking while she was there. We had some funny conversations, and the call continued until her brother arrived to pick her up. It took around half an hour, which meant I unexpectedly got some extra time to speak with her.

Once her brother arrived, it was time to end the call. We said goodbye and “Love you” to each other again, and she went home.

Our Little Virtual Office

Later that night, we had planned something cute—we decided to connect through Zoom and work together as if we were sitting in the same office. Of course, we were actually working, but being connected made it feel like we were physically working beside each other.

Before that, I was on another work call with the colleague I usually speak with at night. We were discussing some work when suddenly my Pappa called me. So I ended that call and immediately attended hers.

After finishing my dinner, we connected through Zoom and started working together. I suggested a few ways to handle what she was working on, but one of the prompts took almost half an hour to complete.

By then, it was already around 12 A.M. in India. I didn’t want her staying awake too late because of this, so I asked her to sleep and told her that we could continue the remaining work the next day.

Before ending the Zoom call, we captured a few funny photos and moments together. Those pictures came out really cute, and despite how exhausting the day had been, that little virtual-office session became one of my favourite parts of the day.

One Final Work Call

There was still one more work-related thing left. During the night, I had asked one of the founders for clarification regarding the approach I needed to follow. I didn’t want another situation where different people gave me different instructions.

He joined a call with me, and we discussed everything properly. Finally, he told me clearly that this was the final approach and that I shouldn’t ask anyone else—I should simply proceed with what he had explained.

I said okay. At least now I had clarity about what I needed to do the next day.

Ending the Day

After all the confusion, meetings, calls, work, and changing approaches, the day finally came to an end. My Pappa and I said goodbye to each other, and both of us went to sleep.

Nothing extraordinary happened yesterday, but it was one of those days where work occupied almost every hour. Still, between all those meetings and tasks, I found small moments to speak with my Pappa, laugh with her, tell her about my frustrations, and even create our own little virtual office through Zoom.

Now, it’s time to start working on that final approach today. At least this time, I know exactly what I’m supposed to do.
