A Day That Reminded Me Who Truly Stands Beside Me

Today was another slow and peaceful day in Dubai. With only three days left before I return to India, my mind has already started packing itself before my luggage does. I spent the day swimming, watching movies, buying chocolates for my family, packing my bags, and most importantly, realizing once again how lucky I am to have my Pappa by my side.

Starting the Morning Slowly

As usual, I woke up early and wished my Pappa good morning. After that, I went downstairs, had a cup of tea, and came back to my room. I spent some time watching reels before deciding that today would be a good day to go swimming.

After reaching the pool, I spent some time swimming, and it felt refreshing. Once I returned to my room, I had a different breakfast instead of my usual bread. Today, I enjoyed appam with egg curry, and honestly, it tasted really good.

A Relaxing Day with Movies

After breakfast, I started watching a movie called Love Oh Love. While watching it, I kept texting my Pappa whenever possible. Even though we weren’t on a call, those small messages throughout the day made me smile.

The movie was quite good, and after finishing it, I had my lunch. Since I was feeling a little tired, I took a short afternoon nap before continuing with the rest of my day.

Buying Chocolates Before Leaving Dubai

Since I’ll be leaving Dubai in just three days, I decided it was finally time to buy chocolates to take back home.

I went shopping and bought quite a few chocolates for my family. The total came to AED 187, which is roughly ₹4,500. It felt like a lot of money just for chocolates, but I wanted to take something nice for everyone back home.

After returning to my room, I started packing my luggage.

Packing Anxiety

Once I packed almost everything, I checked the weight of my suitcase.

It showed 29 kg.

The problem is that my baggage allowance is 30 kg, and I still have a few clothes left to pack. I immediately started worrying because I don’t want to pay excess baggage charges at the airport.

For now, I’m planning to move the remaining clothes into my hand luggage. Hopefully, that will solve the problem. Let’s see how it goes.

A Phone Call That Hurt

Later, I called my parents and grandparents. I was telling them about the chocolates I had bought and mentioned that they cost around ₹4,500.

Since my salary has been delayed this month, I also explained that one of my colleagues had helped me with the money temporarily.

Unfortunately, instead of understanding me, my grandmother didn’t believe what I said. She felt that I was simply spending money unnecessarily and enjoying myself in Dubai.

I also explained that a single meal here costs around ₹500, and that food itself is expensive in Dubai. But again, she didn’t believe me. She kept saying that I was choosing costly food instead of saving money.

No matter how much I tried to explain, it felt like my words weren’t reaching them.

That conversation hurt me more than I expected.

Sometimes it isn’t about the money.

It’s about feeling that the people closest to you don’t trust your words.

I quietly ended the call.

My Safe Place

After that conversation, I told everything to my Pappa.

The moment she heard what had happened, she became upset—not with me, but because she didn’t like seeing me hurt. She stood by my side without questioning me. She listened to everything patiently, comforted me, and reminded me that I wasn’t alone.

At that moment, I realized once again how lucky I am.

In my previous relationship, I never experienced this kind of support. I never felt emotionally safe enough to share everything without worrying about being judged.

But my Pappa is different.

She cares for me like a partner, comforts me like a best friend, and supports me with the warmth of a family. Sometimes she feels like my mother, sometimes like my father, and sometimes simply like the one person who understands me without needing long explanations.

Thank you, Pappa.

I honestly don’t know what I would do without you.

Ending the Day with a Smile

After all that, I started watching Pushpa. While watching the movie, one thought kept coming into my mind.

The way Srivalli stands beside Pushpa and supports him through everything reminded me so much of my Pappa.

She has become that person in my life—the one who stands beside me when everything else feels heavy.

For dinner, I had a simple shawarma, and after finishing it, I sat down to write today’s blog.

Today wasn’t filled with adventures or exciting places.

But it reminded me of something much more important.

Life becomes easier when you have at least one person who truly believes in you, even when the rest of the world doesn’t.

With only three more days left in Dubai, I’m counting every single day until I can finally go back to India and see my Pappa again.

For now, I’ll finish publishing this blog and head to sleep.

Good night, everyone. ❤️
