Today was one of those simple days that reminded me how much a single person can change my mood. Nothing extraordinary happened, but every conversation with my Pappa became the best part of my day. Even with work keeping me busy, talking to her made everything feel lighter.
An Early Start with a Productive Mindset
Last night, I slept immediately after finishing my blog, so I finally got a good night’s sleep. Surprisingly, I woke up around 6:00 A.M. without an alarm. Instead of sleeping for another forty minutes, I decided to make use of the time. The first thing I saw was my Pappa’s good morning message. After wishing her back, I went downstairs and started working on my pending tasks, hoping to finish everything early.
A little later, just before she left for the office, she called me. As always, we spoke about how yesterday had gone, what we had eaten, and the little things happening in our lives. Those conversations may seem simple, but they always make my mornings better. Before she reached the office, we wished each other goodbye with our usual “Love you.”
A Small Surprise for My Pappa
One thing that has always worried me is that my Pappa often skips breakfast. Whenever I ask her to eat something, it usually turns into a small argument because she refuses while I keep insisting. I know chocolates aren’t a replacement for breakfast, but I thought they were still better than having an empty stomach.
So today, I ordered a large box of Ferrero Rocher, three Kinder Joy, and a KitKat pack for her. I had only told her about the Kinder Joy because I wanted the rest to be a surprise. When the package arrived, she was shocked to see how big it was and immediately started asking why I had ordered so much. I just smiled because I knew she’d eventually accept it.
I had once read that chocolate often helps people feel relaxed and happier. Whether that’s scientifically true or not, I don’t know. But if it could make her smile even for a few minutes, it was worth every rupee.
Working Alone
After our morning call, I went back to my room, got ready, had my usual breakfast of bread, and returned downstairs to work. My roommate and one of the managers had already left for an external meeting, while the other two stayed in the room. For some reason, I started feeling lonely sitting downstairs, so I moved back to my room and continued working from there.
I wasn’t feeling very energetic today. Maybe it was the same routine repeating every day, or maybe I was simply mentally tired. Because of that, I worked a little slower than usual and just focused on completing my tasks one by one.
Lunch with My Pappa
For lunch, I ordered camel biryani. Almost at the same time, my Pappa finished her lunch and called me. We only had around fifteen minutes before she had to return to work, so we spent that time talking while I enjoyed my meal.
She told me that one of her tasks wasn’t giving the expected output, and she seemed a little disappointed. I encouraged her, reminded her that difficult days happen, and told her everything would eventually work out. After that, we ended the call and both returned to work.
A Midday Call That Changed My Mood
The afternoon felt long. I kept working, but mentally I wasn’t at my best. During one of her breaks, my Pappa called me again. We only spoke for around ten minutes, but somehow those few minutes completely changed my mood.
Sometimes all it takes is hearing the voice of someone you love. That small conversation made me feel lighter, refreshed, and ready to continue the rest of my work.
Ending the Workday Together
As evening approached, it was finally time for my Pappa to leave the office. We called each other once again and spoke while she was travelling home. It wasn’t a dramatic conversation—we laughed, shared random topics, and simply enjoyed each other’s company.
Soon she reached her stop, her brother came to pick her up, and we ended the call the same way we always do—with a warm “Love you.”
Something Didn’t Feel Right
After the call, I went to a nearby tea shop, had a cup of tea, and returned to my room to continue my pending work. A little later, my Pappa messaged me saying she had reached home safely. Usually, after reaching home, she continues chatting with me while having dinner or relaxing.
Today was different.
Her replies were delayed, short, and felt unusually dull. I immediately sensed that something wasn’t right. I wanted to keep asking her what had happened, but I stopped myself. Sometimes people don’t need questions—they just need a little space.
I simply told her, “Whenever you feel okay, just video call me.” I knew that even if I couldn’t solve her problem, I could at least make her feel a little better.
Being There Matters More Than Solving Everything
After some time, she finally explained what had happened. She had returned home already tired after work, and some family issues had added even more pressure. I completely understood how overwhelming that can feel because I’ve experienced similar situations myself.
I didn’t try to give a long lecture or offer unnecessary advice. I simply reminded her that she wasn’t alone. I told her, “I’m always here for you. If you’re angry, upset, or tired, just call me. You don’t have to carry everything alone.”
Sometimes love isn’t about finding solutions. It’s simply about staying beside someone, even when you can’t fix what they’re going through.
Ending the Day Peacefully
Meanwhile, my colleagues had gone out for dinner, so I asked them to bring me a shawarma. That was enough for me tonight. After finishing my dinner, I came back to my room and started writing this blog.
Today wasn’t filled with adventures or exciting moments. It was simply another ordinary day where work kept me busy, my Pappa made my day brighter, and all I wanted was for her to smile again.
Some days don’t need grand memories.
Sometimes, just knowing that the person you love is okay is enough.
Good night, everyone. ❤️
